Jobless Claims Rise for Week

Initial jobless claims rose by 25,000 last week, the Labor Department said Thursday.

The rise to 471,000 claims for the week ended Saturday was higher than economists’ forecasts of a decline to 440,000, Bloomberg said.

The four-week moving average, a less volatile measure, rose to 453,500, from 450,500 the previous week.

Continuing claims for the previous week ended May 8 fell 40,000 to 4.63 million, slightly higher than the 4.61 million that was forecast.
