Jobless Claims Rise 10,000 for Week

Initial jobless claims rose by 10,000 last week to 455,000, the Labor Department said Thursday.

Economists had forecast a decline to 440,000, Bloomberg reported.

The four-week moving average, a less volatile measure, rose to 440,000 from 445,000.

The number of continuing claims fell to 3.478 for the previous week ended Sept. 6, down from a five-year high.
