Jobless Claims Increase for Week

Initial jobless claims grew by 13,000 last week, the Labor Department said Thursday.

The decline put claims for the week ended Saturday at 462,000, higher than the 445,000 projected by economists, Bloomberg reported.

The four-week moving average, a less volatile measure, rose to 459,000, from 456,750 the week before.

Continuing claims for the previous week ended Oct. 2 dropped by 112,000 from a week earlier, to 4.4 million, the lowest in almost two years.
