Jobless Claims Falls by 5,000 For Week

Initial jobless claims declined by 5,000 last week, the Labor Department reported Sept. 26.

Claims for the week ended Sept. 21 fell to 305,000 from 309,000 the prior week.

The number of claims was below analysts’ median forecast of a rise to 325,000 claims, Bloomberg News reported.

The four-week moving average, a less volatile measure, fell to 308,000, the lowest since June 2007, from 315,000 in the prior week.



Continuing jobless claims for the previous week ended Sept.14 declined by 35,000 to 2.82 million.
