J.B. Hunt Transport Services marked its 60th anniversary last month during a virtual event that included a company founder.

The event covered the history of the company and discussions of what is on the horizon. Company co-founder Johnelle Hunt expressed gratitude to attendees for continuing the vision of her late husband, Johnnie Bryan Hunt. The two founded the company in 1961.

“We’re thrilled to get to celebrate this day,” J.B. Hunt CEO John Roberts said. “We have a mindset and a courage level that will allow us to continue to explore and innovate — and fail fast and fail forward — and be very successful also.”

J.B. Hunt is a supply chain solutions provider based in Lowell, Ark. It started off as a rice hull operation near Little Rock, Ark. Johnnie Hunt ventured into the trucking business in 1969 by purchasing five trucks and seven trailers.

“There’s a tremendous runway out there, and we just look to take advantage because our people are adaptable, smart and hard working,” Nick Hobbs, chief operating officer and executive vice president at J.B. Hunt, said. “They put a good plan together. Just like Mr. Hunt, we have to adjust from time to time, but we make an effort and get through it.”

J.B. Hunt has also added custom- wrapped tractors to its fleet that will be driven by some of the company’s most tenured drivers to commemorate the anniversary. The carrier operates a company-owned fleet of more than 18,500 tractors and 36,000 trailers in addition to intermodal containers.

“There’s nothing more powerful than seeing that scroll. Anytime somebody sees that, they see our drivers, they see our commitment,” Shelley Simpson, chief commercial officer and executive vice president of people and human resources at J.B. Hunt, said.

J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. ranks No. 4 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America, and ranks No. 5 on the TT Top 50 logistics companies list.
