January Truck Orders Surge 51.5%

New Class 8 truck orders climbed in January to their highest level in 33 months and surged 51.5% from year-ago levels, ACT Research reported.

North American truck makers recorded 34,700 net orders in January, the largest monthly total since April 2011 and the second straight month above 30,000, according to ACT’s preliminary data.

January orders also rose 9.5% from the 31,697 orders placed in December.

Year-over-year, last month’s order activity compared with 22,911 orders placed in January 2013.



FTR Associates, another research firm, released similar figures. FTR pegged January net orders at 34,403, representing a 56% year-over-year gain.
