January Michigan Sentiment Index Improves

U.S. consumer confidence rose this month, according to the University of Michigan’s monthly consumer sentiment index released Friday.

The preliminary index for the month rose to 80.5 from 75.5 in December.

The expectations index, which gauges future consumer spending, rose to 69.1 from 65.6 in December.
