January Durable Orders Decline on Lower Aircraft Orders

urable goods orders dove 10.2% in January from the previous month for the biggest drop in six years, led by a decline in commercial aircraft, the Commerce Department said Friday.

Orders of goods made to last at least three years fell to $207.2 billion, Commerce said. That followed a 2.5% increase in December.

Excluding transportation orders, they rose 0.6% following a 1.9% increase in December.



The drop was much greater than analysts’ forecasts of a 2% increase, Bloomberg reported.

Transportation equipment orders fell 31.2% following a 3.6% gain in December.

rucking is a major beneficiary of durable goods manufacturing, hauling both components and finished goods.
