ITLC Searches for a New Home

Cast adrift by American Trucking Associations, Information Technology and Logistics Council members say their mission is still vital and are evaluating three options for staying afloat.

Those options are staying with ATA in a reduced capacity, aligning with an existing organization or starting a new independent association.

One way or another, someone will have to keep the association going, ITLC members believe. And though all three options have significant drawbacks, no one involved seems to fear that ITLC functions will disappear.

The council, which has gone through a number of permutations since it was called the Management Finance Council in the 1960s, has been the trucking’s voice in establishing electronic data interchange and Internet standards. It has held meetings as well as published books and articles on issues such as radio frequency identification, bar coding, satellite tracking, customs automation and electronic commerce initiatives.
