Investment Firm Acquires Unishippers Global Logistics

Ridgemont Equity Partners, an investment firm based in Charlotte, North Carolina, said it has acquired Unishippers Global Logistics, a transportation service provider that resells package and freight services through franchise affiliates across the United States.

Terms were not disclosed.

Unishippers ranks No. 11 on Transport Topics’ 2015 list of the largest freight brokerage firms in the United States and Canada with net revenue of $90 million and gross revenue of $426 million in 2014.

The Salt Lake City-based company does business with about 50,000 small- and medium-size firms. It arranges package delivery through UPS Inc. and other freight services through more than 30 regional and national carriers, including Saia Inc., Estes Express Lines, YRC Freight and UPS Freight. The services are offered through more than 290 franchisees and local affiliates.

Unishippers President Kevin Lathrop said the recapitalization by Ridgemont “will propel the company’s growth and ability to expand our current service offering and geographic footprint.”

Rob Edwards, a partner at Ridgemont, said logistics has been a focus of investment for the firm over the past several years.

“We’ve very pleased to partner with the management team of Unishippers,” Edwards said.

Included in Ridgemont’s investment portfolio is Transportation Insight, a supply chain consulting and freight management firm based in Hickory, North Carolina.
