International Ups Production at Ohio Medium Truck Plant

he International Truck and Engine Corp. said it would increase the build rate on July 21 at a facility where production includes medium-duty cabs and chassis, but the company downplayed the notion that the medium-duty truck market had strengthened.

A spokesman said the decision was based on a "scheduled increase" to 167 units a day from 143 at its Springfield, Ohio, plant. The "scheduled increase" would be similar in size to an increase about the same time last year at the same plant, he said.

"The medium-duty market is still very soft. We see no signs of a pickup," said Navistar spokesman Roy Wiley.
