Initial Jobless Claims Rise by 36,000 for Week

First-time U.S. jobless claims rose by 36,000 last week to 325,000, the Labor Department said Thursday.The jobless level was higher than economists’ forecasts 310,000 new claims, Bloomberg reported.The less-volatile four-week moving average rose to 309,250 from 307, 750.The number of people continuing to collect benefits fell to 2.484 million for the previous week ended Jan. 13, from 2.523 million a week earlier.
