Initial Jobless Claims Rise

Initial jobless claims rose by 4,000 last week, the Labor Department said Thursday.

Claims climbed to 372,000 for the week ended Saturday, economists had called for an increase to 365,000, Bloomberg reported.

The four-week moving average, a less-volatile measure, rose to 368,000, from 363,750.

Continuing jobless claims for the previous week ended Aug.11 climbed by 4,000, to 3.32 million.
