Initial Jobless Claims Fall 5,000 for Week

irst-time U.S. jobless claims fell by 5,000 to 308,000 last week, down from a revised level of 313,000, the Labor Department said Thursday.

Economists had predicted that the level would rise to 315,000 from last week’s initially-reported 310,000, Bloomberg said.

The less-volatile four-week moving average fell to 314,250 from 315,750.



ontinuing jobless claims for the week ended Sep. 2 rose to 2.499 million from 2.481 million a week earlier.
