Industry Waits for Official Word on Hazmat Fingerprint Deadlines

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>The trucking industry last week was still waiting for official word on whether the federal government would extend fast-approaching deadlines for states to conduct fingerprint background checks of truck drivers certified to haul hazardous materials.

Trucking industry groups, and organizations representing state vehicle licensing agencies, recently said they had been told unofficially that the Transportation Security Administration would grant a lengthy extension to its scheduled Nov. 3 deadline to begin the fingerprint checks (9-15, p.1).

However, as of last week, TSA had not published any revised rules in the Federal Register or otherwise issued any statement about extensions.
