Indiana to Lease Turnpike to Private Operators for $3.8 Billion

ndiana Gov. Mitch Daniels has signed into law a bill that allows the state to lease the Indiana Turnpike to private operators for an upfront payment of $3.8 billion, Reuters reported.

The 157-mile toll road runs from the Ohio border to the Illinois border. The cash from the 75-year lease will fund transportation projects throughout the state.

However, the plan could also delay a proposed extension of Interstate 69 because it would require additional legislative approval, the Associated Press reported.
