southern Indiana barge maker and operator plans to add 1,100 jobs over the next three years as part of a $17.5 million expansion project, the Associated Press reported.
American Commercial Lines will increase its work force by more than one-third as part of the expansion, which comes 18 months after the company emerged from federal bankruptcy protection, AP said.
The company, which has about 2,700 employees, transported 43 million tons of freight last year, AP reported.
ACL and four of its units, including JeffBoat LLC, operate 3,200 barges on inland waterways in North and South America.
Last year the company, which is publicly traded, earned $11.8 million on $741.4 million in net revenue, AP reported, citing Securities and Exchange Commission filings.
