ollaboration among freight carriers and logistic service providers is literally remaking the freight world, as tight capacity and rising fuel costs force air, rail, truck and ocean carriers to work together to move goods from far-flung factories to stores and offices in North America.

That growing collaboration is one of most prominent themes in the 2006 edition of the Transport Topics Logistics 50 and is reflected in a first-ever ranking of the largest truck, rail, air and ocean freight carriers in North America that is part of the TT Logistics 50 coverage this year.

Parcel carriers, in particular, have used their size and technical capabilities to bolster their positions as multimodal transportation service providers.
