Illinois to Pay $1.2 Million for Rest Stop Security Upgrades

The Illinois Department of Transportation will spend $1.2 million to update and repair security systems at interstate rest stops, the Associated Press reported Monday.

The systems have not had maintenance funding since mid-2005, AP said. Officials of the company that won the bid, D.M. Mattson, say they will fix minor problems, report major problems and add new cameras to the stops, AP reported.

There were 371 cameras and 159 call boxes installed at Illinois rest stops between 2002 and 2004, AP said.
