n Illinois state representative has introduced a bill that would require postings on roads to show clearly which are truck routes, the Belleville (Ill.) News-Democrat newspaper reported.

State Rep. Jay Hoffman (D) said he is concerned that local transportation agencies in the state do not classify all highways as truck routes, the paper said.

Without a more thorough record, Hoffman said this makes it difficult for truck drivers to know which local roads they are allowed to use, the News-Democrat reported.

His bill would require local agencies to notify the state’s Transportation Department of any existing roads under local jurisdiction.

The state already classifies routes as Class I, Class II and Class III roads. Trucks are permitted to travel on all Class I routes, but there are length and weight restrictions on Class II and Class III routes, the paper said.
