Idaho is now offering commercial vehicle operators the option of bulk online renewal of annual special permits in an effort to help save time and money.

All annual bulk permit types for reducible and nonreducible loads now can be renewed at the Idaho Transportation Department’s new “Company Dashboard” via permits4idaho.com.

“Bulk renewal has greatly reduced the amount of [web] pages customers need to click through when renewing online,” Ellen Mattila, ITD’s public information officer, told Transport Topics.

In addition to renewals, the new portal gives ITD customers the option to order special permits for overweight and/or overdimensional loads and remove annual permits they no longer need. The dashboard also displays a notification 30 days prior to permit expiration dates.

“Bulk renewal saves customers and ITD employees time, and it also saves the customer money. With the easier process, we hope more carriers use the new renewal process and each permit self-issued saves the customer $5,” Mattila said.

Last calendar year, ITD issued 41,145 annual permits, which includes bulk and individual transactions for permits. Bulk and individual permits together account for 36,390 self-issued online permits by customers who can now take advantage of the savings offered.

“Annual permit renewals happen all year round. They are good for one calendar year and expire depending on when the permit was purchased originally. We can change the start and end date of the permits to align with others that the company or carrier may have,” Mattila added.

Instructions for annual bulk permit renewal process are available online at Trucking.idaho.gov/permits/.
