I.D. Systems Inc., provider of the VeriWise brand of asset-tracking technology, said it has received a notice of allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a pending patent on a cargo-sensing system for dry van trailers and intermodal containers.

The system, which integrates a battery-powered, light-based sensor with an ultrasonic cargo detector, is designed to enhance the accuracy of cargo sensing while maximizing the device’s battery life and providing loaded or unloaded status without an external door sensor.

“We believe this addition to our patent portfolio will significantly enhance our competitive advantages in the dry van and intermodal container segments of our transportation asset management business,” CEO Kenneth Ehrman said in the Feb. 26 announcement.
