I-75 Reopens in Cincinnati, Allowing Freight to Move Normally

John Sommers II for TT

Interstate 75 in Cincinnati is reopened in the heart of the city with freight and other traffic moving normally.

The highway was closed Jan. 19 after an overpass collapsed onto the lanes as a construction crew was demolishing the structure.

I-75 is a major freight route through the Midwest, extending from Canada to the tip of Florida via Ohio and Kentucky. The interstate converges with I-71, at the Brent Spence Bridge, which spans the Ohio River to connect the two states.

One construction workers was killed in the collapse, and a truck driver was hospitalized after his truck hit the rubble as the overpass came down.
