I-5 Bridge Plan Approved in Oregon

Span Could Include Tolls

The regional government of the Portland, Ore., area is backing a new Interstate 5 bridge over the Columbia River, the Associated Press reported.

The Metro Council voted 5-2 late last week to endorse replacing bridge spans built in 1917 and 1958 that are heavy with rush-hour traffic, AP said.

The project could cost as much as $4.2 billion, paid for in part by tolls, AP reported.
