I-40 Lanes Reopen in Arkansas

The westbound lanes of Interstate 40 in eastern Arkansas that were closed due to flooding over the weekend have reopened, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said Wednesday.

The westbound lanes on the highway, a key truck route linking Little Rock, Ark., and Memphis, Tenn., reopened Wednesday morning, said AHTD spokesman Glenn Bollick said. The eastbound lanes reopened Monday morning.

I-40 was closed for a 23-mile stretch between the towns of Brinkley and Hazen in eastern Arkansas when the White River spilled over its banks in regional flooding.

The White River flows through northwest Arkansas and connects with the Mississippi River near Batesville, Ark. It had been at flood stage since last week.
