Here Technologies added weather conditions and environmental data to its location data platform, the company announced April 12.

CustomWeather provides customized weather data for a range of industries. The Here Marketplace is a location data and technology platform that is integrating those services to provide fleets, automakers and logistics providers real-time and historical weather datasets.

“Location and weather data are two of the most important pieces of information in business operations,” Jonathan Abon, Here Technologies vice president of platform product management, said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to have CustomWeather join the Marketplace and to see what developers build with the unique insights that location and weather intelligence provide.”

Here said severe weather alerts, storm cell tracking and real-time weather monitoring enable efficient route planning and delivery. Fleet managers can plan and respond when high winds threaten to overturn vehicles or severe weather impacts driving conditions. The company also noted solar radiation data can deliver insights on road temperatures and tire wear.

The CustomWeather integration also will allow platform users to add forecast, weather alerts, storm cell tracking and Doppler radar data into vehicle advanced drivers assistance systems. Here Technologies also noted extreme temperatures and humidity can impact electric vehicle battery life so temperature forecasting can be used to access range limits and anticipated recharging stops.

“The Here Marketplace is an ideal platform for us to connect with new partners to create novel, meaningful weather solutions,” CustomWeather CEO Geoff Flint said in a statement. “The Here Marketplace focus on location-based data aligns with our weather insights and capabilities, and we look forward to seeing what can be built with these incredibly relevant datasets.”
