GXO Plans Hiring Blitz Ahead of Peak Holiday Season

GXO Logistics plans to hire more than 9,000 employees across the U.S. and Canada ahead of the peak holiday season, the company announced Oct. 13.

The open positions cover salaried, hourly and contractor roles with full- and part-time employment opportunities. Those roles include material handlers, operations supervisors, data analysts, robotics technicians, engineers and HR professionals.

“We’re proud to offer opportunities to thousands of people across the U.S. and Canada ahead of the busy holiday shopping season,” Chief Human Resources Officer Maryclaire Hammond said.

The company plans to deploy 3,100 robots in North America by the end of the year and open nine new automated sites in the U.S. and three in Europe. The company already has reported that warehouse automation increased by 40% year-over-year.

The peak holiday season this year is expected to be busy but with many challenges. Truckstop.com said Oct. 11 that it foresees volatility at least through the holidays due to the various supply chain constraints that the economy continues to experience.

GlobalTranz Enterprises released a survey of supply chain leaders Sept. 2 that found 76% of respondents expect their 2021 peak season revenue will be higher than the previous year. It also found 90% indicated that they need to increase hiring to meet customer demand and more than 70% have seen an increase in customers wanting last-mile delivery solutions.

GXO is offering benefits, sign-on bonuses, hourly wage incentives and other performance-based programs. Full-time employees also receive health, vision and dental insurance, parental care programs, a 401(k) plan, tuition reimbursement and development opportunities.
