Grocery Chain Supervalu Reports Record Earnings

Grocery chain Supervalu Inc. said Thursday its fiscal fourth-quarter sales and earnings reached records.

The company earned $156 million, or 73 cents a share, in its fiscal fourth quarter, up from $120 million, or 57 cents, a year ago.

Sales rose to $10.4 billion, from $10.4 billion a year ago for the quarter ended Feb. 23, the company said Thursday.

For its full fiscal year, net income rose to $593 million, or $2.76 per share, from $452 million, or $2.32 per share. Sales rose 18% to $44 billion.



Supervalu, which has about 1,350 trucks in its fleet, is ranked No. 13 in the Transport Topics 100 listing of private North American carriers.
