Greg Werner Promoted to CEO of Werner Enterprises

Truckload carrier Werner Enterprises said late Thursday that Greg Werner had been promoted to be the company’s chief executive officer.Werner, 47, will continue to hold the position of president, which he has held since 1997.He will replace his father, Clarence L. Werner, who started the business in 1956. Clarence Werner, 69, the company’s largest shareholder with about 30% ownership of its stock, will remain chairman.Greg Werner, who owns 5% of the company’s stock, joined the company in 1977 when Werner Enterprises had 100 trucks.In last year’s Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers, which ranked Werner No. 16, the carrier was reported to have almost 8,000 company trucks plus another 830 owner-operator rigs.
