Gore to Propose Ways to Reduce Oil Prices

Vice President Al Gore plans to issue proposals on Thursday to immediately deal with surging oil prices, a Gore presidential campaign spokesman told reporters, Reuters said.

The wire service cited Chris Lehane of the Gore campaign saying the vice president would offer specific ideas on what Lehane said is a “crisis” in home heating oil and gasoline. He added that something needs to be done about it right away, Reuters noted.

Lehane made the comments at a Gore campaign stop in Sunnyvale, Calif.

Separately, The Wall Street Journal Wednesday quoted a spokesman for the presidential campaign of Texas Gov. George Bush saying Bush would oppose the administration using the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to ease political pressure, and that the reserve is meant as a protection against supply disruptions.
