Goodyear Earns $28 Million in 2Q

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. said Thursday it returned to profit in the second quarter after a loss last year.

Its net income of $28 million, or 11 cents a share, compared with a loss of $221 million, or 92 cents, a year ago, the Akron, Ohio-based company said.

Excluding one-time items, the tire maker earned 12 cents per share, it said.

Tire sales to manufacturers rose 69% compare with a year ago in the North American unit, Reuters reported.
