Goodyear ‘Deep-Tread’ Tire to Reduce Rolling Resistance

Goodyear Commercial Tire Systems introduced a new drive tire that it said reduces rolling resistance by nearly 10% compared with its predecessor, leading to better fuel mileage.

The Environmental Protection Agency has certified the G572 LHD tire for its SmartWay program, Goodyear said.

“The G572 LHD features 30/32nds of tread, making it the deepest-tread drive tire with SmartWay approval on the market,” Goodyear, Akron, Ohio, said.

The tire replaces Goodyear’s G372A LHD tire.

Donn Kramer, Goodyear’s director of marketing for commercial tires, said in a statement that if the G572 is used “in conjunction with Goodyear Fuel Max steer and trailer tires, operators can expect up to a 4%-plus increase in fuel economy, as compared to standard Goodyear tires.”
