erman truck manufacturer MAN AG may buy Swedish rival Scania AB, a deal which would make it Europe’s largest truck maker, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.

Scania, the sixth-largest European truck maker, told Bloomberg Tuesday it had received information indicating that MAN might make a bid.

MAN is currently Europe’s third-largest truck maker behind DaimlerChrysler and Volvo AB, according to Bloomberg.

Currently, German automaker Volkswagen controls 34% of Scania’s voting rights, while Swedish investment company Investment AB controls 19.3%, Bloomberg reported.

Investment AB is prepared to sell its stake in Scania to enable the takeover, while Volkswagen would retain its shares, Bloomberg said, citing reports from Swedish newspaper Dagens Industri.
