Gas Prices Soar 17¢ to $3.79 a Gallon

Gasoline prices soared 17 cents in the past two weeks to a national average of $3.79 a gallon, according to the latest Lundberg Survey of filling stations released Sunday.

The latest twice-monthly Lundberg Survey, which covered the two-week period ended Friday, said that gas prices were 61 cents higher than the same week last year.

Crude oil futures closed at a record $126.29 a barrel Friday on the New York Mercantile Exchange, after topping out at an intraday record $127.82, Bloomberg reported.
 
The lowest gasoline pump price was in Tucson, Ariz., at $3.48 a gallon, while the highest was in Chicago, at $4.07, Lundberg said.

The U.S. Department of Energy comes out with its weekly survey of gasoline and diesel prices Monday afternoon.
