Garmin Launches Truck Navigation Device With Built-In Camera

Garmin International Inc. is launching a trucking navigation device with a built-in dash camera.

DezlCam features a road-facing camera that continually records the drive and automatically saves video footage in the event of an accident, serving as an “onboard eyewitness,” the company said.

The device also provides customized truck routing for the size and weight of a driver’s truck as well as route warnings for bridge heights, weight limits, sharp curves and steep grades.

“As technology evolves, so do the needs of truck drivers who spend their lives on the road,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales, adding that the dash cam can help truckers protect their driving reputation.

Garmin said it expected DezlCam to have a suggested retail price of $500.

The device features a 6-inch pinch-to-zoom display and a magnetic mount to quickly secure or remove the DezlCam from the cab.

The built-in dash cam, which has an adjustable swivel lens, automatically saves footage of collisions upon impact and also can record the location, speed, date and time of the incident.

Drivers can use the device to modify routes to include preferred cities or roads, the company said. Its “up ahead” feature displays a constant stream of nearby services along the route, including rest areas, fuel stations and restaurants.

The DezlCam also provides a history log to record fuel usage, fuel-tax mileage and hours of service.

The product comes with preloaded maps of North America with free updates.
