Garmin Introduces Truck-Specific GPS Navigator

Garmin International announced last week a global positioning system navigator that it said is its first portable navigation device designed exclusively for the trucking industry.

The nüvi 465T’s software can notify a driver of dimension and hazardous material restrictions and will adjust routes based on the details of the truck, Garmin said in a statement.

The GPS device, introduced at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky., also can provide locations of truck repair facilities, Garmin said.
Other standard features include traffic alerts, street-level maps of the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, and voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions.

Garmin said the nüvi 465T will be available in the second quarter.
