GAO: Study on '02 Engines Due in March

he General Accounting Office plans to complete a study within three months on the economic and air quality impact of the government’s 2002 rule that tightened standards for heavy-truck emissions, a GAO spokeswoman said.

Spokeswoman Laura Kopelson said that “we are aiming for the middle of March” to complete the study, but she also cautioned that the timetable could be moved back.

That would put the study coming out just as many truck suppliers and trucking fleet customers are trying to decide what technologies they will need to embrace in order to meet even tougher air quality standards in 2007 and 2010.
