Freight Volume Rises in August, DAT Report Shows

The latest DAT North American Freight Index report of spot market freight volume showed increases in August from the previous month.

The Sept. 20 report from DAT, part of Portland, Ore.-based TransCore, showed a 0.4% rise in spot market freight volume in August, compared with July, and a 13% increase on a year-over-year basis last month.

Freight volume typically peaks on the spot market in June, but it extended through the summer, according to the DAT report.

Freight volume increased 3.1% for vans in August from July, rose 3.8% for reefers and declined 5.1% for flatbeds.



Freight availability for van loads in August rose 10% from the same month last year, reefer loads increased 22% and flatbed rates rose 14%, according to DAT.
