Fraud Alert: Counterfeit DOT Letter Sent to Trucking Firms

otor carriers should be on the lookout for a counterfeit letter that looks like it is from the U.S. Department of Transportation asking for financial information, according to the Truckload Carriers Association.

The letter, which has arrived at trucking companies around the country on what looks like DOT letterhead, is dated Jan. 27, starts with “Dear Sirs,” and asks trucking companies that may be prospective government contractors for financial information.

DOT is aware of the issue, and its inspector general’s office is investigating, TCA said.
