Forward Air Corp. will now offer less-than-truckload services in Savannah, Ga., the company announced July 13.

The Greeneville, Tenn.-based asset-light freight and logistics services firm said the move was part of an ongoing growth initiative. The plan involves organic infrastructure investments as well as acquisitions of complementary businesses.

“This is an exciting time at Forward as we continue to flex our muscle,” CEO Tom Schmitt said in a statement. “Savannah marks the first time that we have expanded our LTL network beyond our current airport-to-airport footprint.”

The service initially will operate out of the existing final-mile facility in Savannah. The company will evaluate the need for a separate location based on growth. Savannah already has services such as export pickup, import delivery, intermodal drayage, flatbed services and final-mile delivery.

“We are also leveraging our final-mile network to greatly reduce the level of investment required for this LTL expansion,” Schmitt said. “Savannah is a great example of the synergies within our networks that offer opportunities for growth.”

Forward Air ranks No. 29 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America.
