FMCSA Rejects All Requests to Modify New Hours Rules

he Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration denied petitions from a diverse collection of businesses requesting changes in its new hours-of-service rules, the agency said Aug. 25.

FMCSA denied requests from eight companies including Wal-Mart, Fox News, a utility and the Hours-of-Service Coalition, which represents short-haul trucking operations, saying the new rules were consistent, would improve safety and that all businesses had ample time to comply.

“We took a look at each petition and we compared the relief sought to the goals in the rulemaking,” FMCSA spokesman Andy Beck told Transport Topics. “After carefully considering each, we chose to deny those petitions.”
