FMCSA Proposes HOS Waiver for Ammonia Carriers

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Wednesday proposed a two-year exemption from the federal hours-of-service regulations for transporters of anhydrous ammonia.

The limited waiver, announced in Wednesday’s Federal Register, would affect transportation from any distribution point to a local farm retailer or to an end consumer, as long as it takes place within a 100 air-mile radius of the retail or wholesale distribution point.

The action would extend a 90 day waiver announced March 22 for ammonia carriers during the 2010 spring planting season.

The proposal is open for a 30-day comment period. To comment, visit www.regulations.gov, under docket number FMCSA-2010-0230.
