FMCSA Delays Issuing Chassis Rule Until 2005

federal regulation on the safety and maintenance of intermodal container chassis, originally planned for late this year, will be delayed until early 2005 because of “other rulemaking activities,” according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

“Hours-of-service and other rulemaking activities have caused slight delays on the intermodal container chassis proposed rule,” spokesman David Longo told Transport Topics on Oct. 13.

Warren Hoemann, FMCSA dep-uty administrator, said, “Barring any alternate direction contained in legislation, the agency anticipates issuing the notice of proposed rulemaking in the spring of 2005.”



Legislation on intermodal equipment is pending in Congress.
