SAN DIEGO — Aerodynamics company FlowBelow said it will provide 1,200 of its Tractor AeroKits to Mesilla Valley Transportation, which plans to outfit its entire fleet with the fuel-saving products.

It was the largest order the supplier has received for the product, Bren Marshell, FlowBelow’s vice president of sales, said during an Oct. 4 press conference here at American Trucking Associations’ annual Management Conference & Exhibition.

FlowBelow’s Tractor AeroKits consist of wheel covers and tandem fairings that fill the gap between and behind the tractor’s drive wheels. The fairings and wheel covers work together to guide airflow along the side of the truck, which reduces aerodynamic drag and cuts fuel consumption.

FlowBelow said its AeroKit provides 2.23% in fuel savings, based on testing with MVT’s trucks and trailers.

The companies said they expect the AeroKits to cut MVT’s fuel use by more than 300,000 gallons of diesel per year, saving more than $1 million in annual fuel expenses.

MVT will display the FlowBelow AeroKit on one of its International ProStar+ tractors in the exhibit hall at MC&E. The FlowBelow product will also be featured on a Freightliner Cascadia tractor at the show.

MVT, based in Las Cruces, New Mexico, ranks No. 68 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada.
