Florida Storms Cause Accidents, Wreak Havoc in State

Big thunderstorms and tornadoes blew through central Florida Friday, killing as many as 19 people and causing accidents on interstates, including one that tossed a tractor-trailer airborne, news reports said.The storm caused accidents that shut down Interstate 4 in both directions for several hours in Volusia, Fla., and shut down power to thousands of residents, the Orlando Sentinel reported on its Web site Friday.A Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman told the Sentinel that tornadoes and severe weather caused wrecks on I-4 near State Road 44 in DeLand, Fla., involving five tractor-trailers and two other vehicles. Three people were taken to the hospital , but none of their injuries were believed to be life-threatening, the Sentinel reported.Witnesses said one of the trucks involved in the accident was destroyed, the paper said.
