lorida’s plan to roll out a transportation workers’ security identification card valid at any of the state’s 14 ports has been delayed from its planned July 1 rollout, a spokesman for the state agency that would implement the program said last week.

The federal Transportation Security Administration and Florida officials had both announced in March that the first cards would be issued July 1, in what was seen as a pilot for a national transportation worker identification credential, or TWIC card. TWIC is a project of the TSA.

But Robert Sanchez, spokesman for Florida’s Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, said efforts to make the federal program work in tandem with Florida’s program had delayed the launch.

Sanchez said he had no information on when the first cards would be issued.

ackers have said the identity cards would use computer chips and biometric information to identify the bearer.
