Fleets Use Wireless Devices to Improve Utilization

rucking company executives looking for ways to improve fleet equipment utilization and provide better and quicker service to customers said they are turning to wireless and mobile technologies to aid them in those tasks.

Herb Schmidt, chief executive officer of truckload carrier Contract Freighters Inc., told Transport Topics that CFI has “fully integrated” onboard computers into its operations. “We’re able to assign shipments to drivers more quickly . . . by alerting them to available loads and make it easier for dispatchers to determine which drivers are available to work particular routes.”

CFI ranks No. 54 on the Transport Topics 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
