Five-Day Teamsters Strike at CN Ends

A five-day strike by the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference against Canadian National Railway ended Wednesday as negotiations resumed between the parties.

As part of the agreement, Montreal-based CN said that both a 1.5% wage increase and a proposal to increase workers’ monthly mileage limits have been rescinded.

Talks that began 14 months ago to replace a contract that expired Dec. 31 will continue with a provision to use binding arbitration to resolve wage and benefit issues.

The strike by about 1,700 engineers in Canada began Saturday. Canada's Parliament was debating a measure that would have ended the strike at the time that it was ended.
