he Federal Highway Administration is soliciting applications from state and local governments for funding of projects designed to create more long-term truck parking spaces on the National Highway System, FHWA said Monday in its Federal Register notice.

Eligible projects include construction of spaces and other capital improvements in addition to the use of intelligent transportation systems technology to increase information on the availability of both public and private commercial vehicle parking spaces, FHWA said.

The truck parking initiative was established by Congress in the 2005 Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) highway bill.

Applications are due Nov. 27, FHWA said.
