FHWA Forum Aims at Image of Transport

The Federal Highway Administration will conduct a symposium on improving transportation communications with the public Dec. 3-4 at the Radisson Plaza Hotel in Alexandria, Va.

The meeting has two goals: to make people more aware of transportation concerns and to improve their perception of transportation. It also aims to better cooperation among communications professionals in various transportation sectors.

Speakers will include David Winstead, Maryland secretary of transportation; Roy Kientz, Surface Transportation Policy Project; and Thomas J. Donohue, president, U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Among the topics are why transportation news is important to the public; best practices in transport; case studies on transfer of technologies; and effective communication strategies.

Co-sponsors of the symposium include the Transportation Research Board, American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, National Association of Transportation Technology Transfer Centers, and other highway and engineering groups.
